About us

Who We Are: A Powerful Consortium for Change

We are a strategic coalition of leading organizations united by a common goal: to drive meaningful digital inclusion in Eastern Uganda. Led by the African Centre for Women, Information and Communications Technology (ACWICT), in close collaboration with the African Centre of Technologies for Inclusive Participation (ACTIP) and the Busia Women Cross Border Traders Cooperative Union (BWCBTCU), and funded by the UK Government’s Digital Access Programme (UK DAP), we bring together decades of expertise to create lasting impact.

Our Collective Vision for Eastern Uganda

We envision a digitally fluent Eastern Uganda where economic barriers are dismantled, and every woman, youth, and person with disability is equipped to harness technology for personal growth, economic resilience, and community development. We believe in a future where digital access translates directly into improved livelihoods and inclusive prosperity.

ACWICT: The Lead Partner with a Proven Track Record

With over 20 years of dedicated experience in ICT for Development (ICT4D), ACWICT is the engine of this project. We bring a wealth of tested methodologies, including the highly successful DEGESI model from Kenya, ensuring that our interventions are evidence-based, scalable, and effective. Our role encompasses overall project leadership, curriculum development, master training, and strategic oversight.

ACTIP: Grassroots Technology Expertise

The African Centre of Technologies for Inclusive Participation (ACTIP) is our bedrock in Uganda, providing deep local knowledge and technical prowess. With 30 years of experience, ACTIP specializes in last-mile connectivity and practical tech skills, leading the implementation of the Computer Technicians track and ensuring our solutions are contextually relevant and sustainable.

BWCBTCU

Deep Community Roots and Market Access

The Busia Women Cross Border Traders Cooperative Union (BWCBTCU) is the vital link to the community. They bring an extensive network of women entrepreneurs and an intimate understanding of the local and cross-border economic landscape. Their role is crucial in mobilizing participants, facilitating market linkages, and ensuring the training translates into real-world trade and business opportunities.

UK Digital Access Programme (UK DAP): Strategic Funding & Alignment

This project is funded by the UK Government through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) under its Digital Access Programme. This partnership provides not only essential financial resources but also strategic alignment with global best practices in digital development, ensuring our work contributes to the international goal of leaving no one behind in the digital economy.

Our Unified Implementation Philosophy

Our approach is built on three core pillars:

Community-Anchored

We work within existing community structures, building on local trust and knowledge.

Mentor-Led

Our cascade Training-of-Trainers (ToT) model ensures knowledge is passed on sustainably by local champions.

Holistically Supportive

We provide more than just skills; we offer mentorship, business incubation support, and access to a wider ecosystem.

Together, We Build Digital Futures

Our partnership represents more than collaboration—it’s a shared commitment to transformative change. By combining decades of expertise with deep community trust, we are creating pathways to opportunity that are both sustainable and scalable. This is digital inclusion, reimagined for Eastern Uganda—rooted in community, driven by partnership, and built to last.
