Our Vision for Inclusion

We strive for a fully inclusive society where Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) enjoy equal rights, dignity, and opportunities. We work to break down physical, social, and attitudinal barriers, ensuring PWDs can participate fully in all aspects of community life.

Key Challenges Faced

Stigma & Discrimination: Negative cultural beliefs and stereotypes limit social participation and self-worth.

Physical Inaccessibility: Lack of ramps, accessible latrines, and transportation hinders mobility and access to services.

Barriers to Education: Schools often lack trained teachers, learning materials, and infrastructure to support learners with disabilities.

Economic Marginalization: Extreme difficulty in finding employment or starting businesses due to prejudice and lack of tailored support.

Limited Advocacy Power: PWDs are frequently absent from platforms where decisions affecting them are made.

Livelihood & Economic Inclusion Programs

Skills Training for All Abilities

Tailored vocational training (e.g., phone repair, knitting, shoemaking) based on individual capacity and interest.

Start-Up Kits & Grants

Providing the necessary tools and seed capital for graduates to immediately begin their trades.

Disability-Inclusive Farming

Introducing adaptive techniques and tools for gardening and animal husbandry suitable for various disabilities.

Market Linkages

Helping PWD-led businesses and producer groups access local markets and government procurement programs.

Education & Empowerment Initiatives

Inclusive Education Support: Working with schools to train teachers, provide assistive devices (braillers, wheelchairs, hearing aids), and promote child-to-child support systems.

Adult Literacy Classes: Special classes for PWDs who missed out on formal education, integrating basic literacy with rights awareness.

Leadership & Advocacy Training: Empowering PWDs to understand their rights under the UN Convention and Uganda’s Persons with Disabilities Act, and to advocate for themselves.

Forming Strong Unions: Supporting the formation and strengthening of District Unions of Persons with Disabilities (DUPWDs).

Accessibility & Community Mobilization

Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR): Training community volunteers to provide basic therapy, support, and referral services for PWDs at home.

Making Public Spaces Accessible: Advocating for and collaborating on the construction of ramps at health centers, schools, and council offices.

Awareness Campaigns: Using radio dramas, community dialogues, and testimonies to challenge stigma and promote inclusion.

Sports & Arts: Promoting wheelchair basketball, paralympic sports, and inclusive drama groups to showcase ability and build confidence.

Redefining Ability in the Digital Age

In the digital world, ability is not defined by physical limits, but by skill, creativity, and innovation. Persons with Disabilities in Eastern Uganda are proving that technology is the ultimate equalizer—transforming barriers into bridges, and challenges into opportunities. From successful freelancers to tech repair entrepreneurs, they are not only participating in the digital economy but are leading with resilience, talent, and undeniable impact. Here, disability does not limit potential—it fuels a different kind of greatness.
