Our Vision for Small Scale Traders

We envision a thriving, resilient, and digitally empowered community of small-scale traders who are key drivers of local economic growth and cross-border commerce. Our goal is to transform informal trade into sustainable, profitable, and legally recognized enterprises that contribute to household income stability and community development.

Key Challenges Faced

Informal Status

Limited Capital

Cross-Border Hurdles

Market Information Asymmetry

Poor Record-Keeping

Vulnerability to Economic Shocks

Formalization & Business Development Services

Guiding traders through the process of registering their businesses with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and obtaining trading licenses.

Record-Keeping & Financial Literacy Training

Practical workshops on maintaining sales ledgers, tracking expenses, and separating business from personal finances.

Business Plan Development

Assisting traders in creating simple, actionable business plans to guide growth and attract financing.

Tax Education

Sensitizing traders on their tax obligations and the benefits of formalization, in partnership with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).

Access to Finance & Market Linkages

Mobile Money & Digital Finance Training: Educating traders on using mobile money for payments, savings, and accessing digital credit products.

Buyer-Seller Meetings: Organizing trade fairs and B2B meetings connecting small-scale traders with larger retailers, supermarkets, and exporters.

Cross-Border Trade Facilitation: Providing information on simplified trade regimes, duty exemptions under the East African Community, and legal crossing procedures.

Skills Enhancement & Digital Tools

Product Diversification & Quality Training: Training in basic quality control, packaging, and branding to add value to common traded items like grains, textiles, and household goods.

Digital Marketing Skills: Introducing traders to social media (WhatsApp Business, Facebook) and online platforms for marketing and customer engagement.

Market Information Systems: Promoting the use of SMS and app-based services (like eGranary) that provide daily commodity prices from major markets.

Negotiation & Customer Service Skills: Workshops to enhance interpersonal skills for better supplier and customer relationships.

From Market Stalls to Global Calls

Digital tools have transformed local trade into limitless opportunity. Small-scale traders across Eastern Uganda are no longer confined to their market stalls—they are now reaching customers across borders, managing finances with mobile precision, and growing their businesses with every click. By blending traditional entrepreneurial spirit with modern digital skills, they are proving that commerce knows no boundaries when innovation meets ambition. This is trade reimagined—connected, smart, and boundless.
