New Initiative Launch

The Uganda Project today announced the official launch of its ambitious “Maji Maisha” (Water is Life) clean water initiative, set to provide sustainable, clean water access to over 5,000 residents in the Nakaseke District. This landmark project addresses the critical challenge of water scarcity, which disproportionately affects women and children.

The initiative will involve the drilling of four new boreholes and the rehabilitation of two existing wells, each equipped with solar-powered pumps for an eco-friendly and low-maintenance solution. In partnership with local community leaders, the project also includes comprehensive training on water resource management and sanitation (WASH) practices.

“Our goal is not just to provide water, but to build a foundation for community-led health and economic development,” said the Country Director for the Uganda Project. “When you free a community from the daily burden of fetching water, you unlock potential in education, agriculture, and family well-being.”

The “Maji Maisha” initiative is a critical step towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and is expected to reduce waterborne diseases in the region by an estimated 70% within the first year.
